Section 1Introduction

Paper Giants Publishing, LLC (“Company,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is an independent publisher of children's books and educational software, based in Columbus, Ohio. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect from visitors to papergiants.pub and from customers of the products we publish, how we use that information, and how we safeguard the privacy of everyone involved — including, critically, the students whose information our customers manage using our software.

By visiting our website or purchasing any product we publish, you (“you” or “your”) agree to the practices described in this Policy.

Section 2What we publish

Paper Giants Publishing currently publishes:

Children's books — including The Adventures of Gabrielle Graham series, sold through third-party retailers such as Amazon.
Progress Desk — a local-first special-education case management app for Mac and iPad, sold at progressdesk.app.

Additional books and software may be released in the future. Where a specific product has its own privacy commitments — for example, Progress Desk's local-first architecture — those are described alongside the general commitments in this Policy.

Section 3Our core privacy commitments

We do not sell your personal information. We have never sold customer information and we will never sell customer information.

Progress Desk is built on a local-first architecture. Paper Giants Publishing does not collect, access, receive, transmit, store, or process any student data through Progress Desk at any time.

Beyond the sale itself, we collect as little as possible — only what we genuinely need to fulfill your order, deliver support, and meet our legal obligations. We do not run behavioral advertising, we do not build user profiles, and we do not share your information with data brokers.

Section 4Information we collect

4.1 When you visit papergiants.pub

Our website is a static informational site. We do not use analytics trackers, third-party cookies, advertising pixels, or session recording of any kind. The site is served through GitHub Pages, which may record standard, non-identifying access logs for security and abuse prevention purposes; those logs are governed by GitHub's own privacy policies.

4.2 When you contact us

If you email support@papergiants.pub, we retain your name, email address, and the content of your message for as long as needed to resolve your inquiry and to keep a reasonable customer-support history. We do not use these communications for marketing.

4.3 When you buy a Paper Giants product

The specific data collected depends on the product and the sales channel:

Books sold through Amazon or other retailers. The retailer collects and processes your purchase information under its own privacy policy. Paper Giants Publishing does not receive individually identifiable customer information from these retailers — only aggregate sales reports and royalty data.
Progress Desk software. Purchases are processed by our online reseller, Paddle.com, which acts as Merchant of Record. Paddle collects and processes the payment information required to complete the transaction; we receive only the license information (your name, email address, license key, and transaction record) needed to issue and manage the license, plus anonymized diagnostic data (crash reports, application version, operating system type) used solely to improve stability. Paddle's privacy practices are governed by the Paddle Privacy Notice.

Section 5Information we do not collect

To be clear and unambiguous:

No student data. We do not collect, access, receive, view, transmit, store, or process any information about students — including names, identification numbers, grades, assessment scores, IEP documentation, disability status, behavioral records, attendance records, or any other educational record as defined under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), 20 U.S.C. § 1232g. This is a structural property of how Progress Desk is built, not a policy we could change.
No classroom or district data. We do not collect information about schools, districts, classrooms, teachers' caseloads, or student rosters through any of our products.
No behavioral tracking of readers or users. We do not use cookies, pixels, analytics trackers, or similar technologies to monitor how you browse papergiants.pub, read our books, or use our software after installation.
No advertising profiles. We do not build user profiles or track usage patterns for advertising, and we do not share information with advertising networks.

Section 6How we use the information we collect

The limited information we collect is used exclusively for:

Processing and fulfilling your purchase, and issuing or activating your license.
Providing customer support and responding to your inquiries.
Complying with applicable tax, accounting, and legal obligations.
Sending transactional communications directly related to your purchase (receipts, license information, critical software updates).
Improving software stability through anonymized diagnostic data.

We do not use your information for advertising, marketing profiling, behavioral targeting, or any purpose unrelated to the direct provision of the product and its support.

Section 7Information sharing and disclosure

We share your information only in the following limited circumstances, which represent standard and necessary business operations:

Payment processing. Paddle.com, as Merchant of Record for Progress Desk, handles all payment transactions. Third-party retailers such as Amazon handle payment for our books. These providers are subject to their own privacy commitments.
Legal compliance. We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, subpoena, court order, or other legal process, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request.
Business transfers. In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of our assets, customer information may be among the assets transferred. In such an event, we will provide notice before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
Service providers. We may engage trusted service providers who perform functions on our behalf (such as email delivery, hosting, or accounting). These providers are contractually prohibited from using your information for any purpose other than providing services to us.

No other sharing, disclosure, or transfer of your personal information occurs.

Section 8Data retention

We retain purchase and license information for as long as your license is active and for a reasonable period thereafter to comply with our legal, accounting, and tax obligations. Customer support communications are retained for a reasonable period to ensure continuity of service. You may request deletion of your personal information at any time by contacting us, subject to our legal retention obligations and the retention practices of any third-party seller (Paddle, Amazon) through whom the underlying transaction was processed.

Section 9Data security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect the personal information we hold from unauthorized access, use, alteration, or disclosure. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Section 10Children's privacy

Although we publish books for children, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of consent in your jurisdiction). Books are purchased through third-party retailers by adults, and Progress Desk is designed for use by adult professionals — specifically special-education teachers, intervention specialists, related-service providers, and educational administrators.

Because all student data managed within Progress Desk remains on the user's local device and is never transmitted to us, no student information — including information about minor children — is collected by Paper Giants Publishing through the software.

Section 11FERPA, IDEA, and educational privacy laws

Because Progress Desk operates on a local-first architecture and Paper Giants Publishing does not collect, access, or store any student data:

The Company does not function as a “school official” under FERPA.
The Company does not receive “education records” as defined under FERPA.
The Company does not access records protected under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
The user retains sole custody, control, and responsibility for all educational records and student PII entered into and managed within the software.

Users remain solely responsible for complying with FERPA, IDEA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and any applicable state student-privacy laws in their use of Progress Desk.

Section 12Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
Request correction of inaccurate personal information.
Request deletion of your personal information, subject to our legal retention obligations.
Opt out of any non-essential communications.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at support@papergiants.pub. Where a right you wish to exercise relates to a transaction processed by Paddle or a book purchased through Amazon, we will help direct your request to the appropriate party.

Section 13Third-party services

Our products may, at your discretion, integrate with or link to third-party services (retailers, payment processors, cloud services). Any data shared with such third parties is governed by their respective privacy policies, not this Policy. Paper Giants Publishing is not responsible for the privacy practices of any third-party service.

Section 14Changes to this Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to update or modify this Privacy Policy at any time. We will notify affected users of material changes by posting the revised Policy at this URL with an updated Effective Date. If changes are significant, we will make reasonable efforts to provide direct notice (such as email notification to Progress Desk license holders). Continued use of our products or website following any such modification constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.

Section 15Governing law

This Privacy Policy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles.
